Zoom event helps parents navigate upcoming school year, online learning
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – In past years parents had a little more say about their children’s education.
But the pandemic is limiting their options, which can be overwhelming.
This is why some local organizations are coming together to help families navigate the upcoming school year.
The Parenting Place, UW-Extension of La Crosse County, and the La Crosse Public Library are hosting what they call ‘How to School at Home’ zoom event.
It’s a chance for families to talk with professionals and other parents about thoughts and concerns with online learning, but also a place to share ideas for shaping a positive school experience for their kids.
Preparing parents now is so important to avoid repeating the outcome of last spring.
“We have the time, let’s not panic about it, let’s plan it, and then we can be a little more resilient with our resources. There’s a lot of things we don’t have control over right now, but let’s use what we do have control over and see what we can do to make this a great year,” said Emily Crook, Positive Youth Development Educator for La Crosse County.
The zoom session takes place next Tuesday, August 18th at noon so working parents or guardians can join in on their lunch break.
If you don’t have internet access that’s okay, you’re also able to call into the meeting.
