YWCA honors Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration
Franciscan Sisters recognized as YWCA 'ally'
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse’s YWCA is honoring those who share their vision of empowering women in the area.
The YWCA recognized the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration at an event Wednesday night in La Crosse.
At the event, they named the Franciscan Sisters their first-ever “ally” of the year.
YWCA Executive Director Ruthanne Schultz says it was an easy decision to honor the Sisters, since the two organizations have a long history of sharing the same goals and serving parallel missions.
“The fact that these are two strong women’s organizations that provide critical services in this community really means a lot to us,” said Schultz.
Mary Ann Gschwind of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration says it’s an honor to be recognized by an organization that shares many of the same ideals.
“I think for both of us as service groups and women’s groups, to have that connection is very special,” said Gschwind. “So for them to recognize our service is really kind of awesome.”
Both the YWCA and the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration have been serving the La Crosse area for more than one hundred years.
