Young anglers show their skills at fishing derby in Sheldon
The Sheldon Valley Sportsman's Association held their 10th annual Youth Fishing Derby
SHELDON, Minn (WKBT) – Young anglers showed off their skills Saturday in Minnesota.
The Sheldon Valley Sportsman’s Association held their 10th annual Youth Fishing Derby.
The free event is a great way for kids and families to get out and enjoy the weather and maybe catch some trout for dinner.
Kids 16 and under were able to fish anywhere in the streams in the valley.
Awards are given out for the largest trout caught.
Fishing is fun for these folks, but leaders say just being outside was the real prize.
“It gets the kids outdoors. It gets them to experience the outdoors. It gets them to go do fishing, it’s educational for them. We just try to provide it so they can enjoy it,” said Neil Beckman, the Coordinator for the Youth Fishing Derby.
About 50 kids participated in this year’s event.
