Xcel Energy’s second solar garden up and running in our area

Xcel Energy’s seven acre solar garden site is operating and generating renewable energy for customers off of Highway 33 in Cashton.

Xcel’s first solar garden was build in Eau Claire in the fall of 2007.

They are part of Xcel’s plan to become carbon free by 2050.

Alex Lueck, a key account manager with Xcel, said they are committed to keeping bills low, but want to provide options for customers who are asking for renewable energy.

“The garden’s are set up so that it’s subscriber driven. Basically, it’s a program where you subscribe to it. There’s a contract associated with it, and then we give you a bill credit back on your bill,” said Lueck.

Lueck said spaces in the program have almost run out. You can find out more about the program here.

Xcel plans on building a third and final solar garden in Ashland later this year.
