Women’s Fund celebrates 20th anniversary at Fall Luncheon
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Women’s Fund of La Crosse launched a new campaign to continue offering support to women and girls in the community.
Their new “Growing Possibilities” campaign has a fundraising goal of $200,000. A donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has agreed to match any donations or pledges made to the Women’s Fund up to $100,000.
Keynote Speaker Laura Ling, an international journalist, spoke about the issues of human trafficking at the Fall Luncheon. The journalist was held captive in North Korea, and discussed the importance of exposing global issues that affect women of the world.
Ling says, “within that experience [of being held captive], I found strengths that I didn’t know existed…and I think this organization helps women find those strengths. Women need to be helping other women, otherwise we all suffer.”
The Women’s Fund endowment is used for grants every year.
Since the Fund started in 1998, it has given more than $565,000 to local programs through more than 250 grants. This year, the organization granted the largest amount in its history, $71,700.
