WKBT update on DISH extension

Company refuses WKBT-TV offer of extension

After refusing our offer of a third extension, it now appears that WKBT-TV will be removed from the DISH satellite system when the current agreement between the companies expires at 11:00 tonight. The result would be that thousands of DISH customers will not be able to watch WKBT-TV local news, upcoming NFL games, this week’s PGA Championship and all CBS programming.

“We sincerely regret this development”, said Channel 8 General Manager Scott Chorski.  “We have agreements with all other cable and satellite carriers. We are only seeking a fee from DISH which mirrors those other agreements. Doing otherwise would provide DISH with an unfair competitive advantage, something which would not be fair to those many companies with whom we reached an agreement without service disruptions. It’s unfortunate DISH has made this decision.”

The DISH agreement expires at 11 p.m. Thursday. While WKBT-TV would not be available on the DISH system, it remains available on all other cable and satellite systems. In addition, WKBT-TV is always available free with an over-the-air antenna.
