WKBT news anchor steps down from News 8 at Six; Remains anchor of News 8 at Five

Lisa Klein says farewell after co-anchoring 6 p.m. news for 10 years

After 10 years, WKBT news anchor Lisa Klein is stepping down from the anchor desk at News 8 at Six. Klein will continue to anchor News 8 at Five and remains the station’s education reporter.

This transition brings a new reporting opportunity for Klein. She will begin to explore more possibilities for investigative journalism in our community.

Klein’s decision to give up the anchor seat next to Mike Thompson on News 8 at Six was to allow for more family time with her husband and two daughters.

“Sitting next to my friend and co-anchor Mike Thompson for the past eight years has been an honor,” said Klein. “However, I am thrilled to be able to eat dinner with my family on a consecutive basis for the first time since my children were born, while maintaining a career in journalism with the news station I love.”

Klein plans to continue to serve the News 8 viewing area for many years to come.

“I am thankful viewers welcomed me into their homes every night at 6 p.m,” said Klein. “I will always be grateful for their support and look forward to a long relationship with them on News 8 at Five.”

Klein will continue to deliver her Assignment: Education reports every Tuesday on News 8 at Six. Her last newscast at the anchor desk on News 8 at Six will be Friday, August 21.
