WISPIRG: Double check toy safety while shopping

New report found hazardous toys in a number of different retail stores

Before marking off your child’s Christmas list, you might want to double check how safe what you’re buying is.

A new “Trouble in Toyland 2014” report from the consumer group, WISPIRG, found hazardous toys in a number of different retail stores like Target and Wal-Mart.

The annual report looks for toys that could pose a safety risk for our littlest consumers. It varies from high levels of toxic substances to choking hazards.

“Carrying around an empty toilet roll tube that has a 1.75 inch diameter is a great rule of thumb to see if anything fits in there then it shouldn’t be for a child under three,” said Maggie Oliver of WISPIRG.

The group suggests really thinking about what you’re buying and potential risks it could cause.
