Kerr and Underly are seeking to replace Carolyn Stanford Taylor, who has served in the seat in 2019

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Wisconsin’s state superintendent candidates are making stops in La Crosse, just two weeks from election day.

Deborah Kerr and Jill Underly emerged from a field of seven candidates following the primary election last month.

Underly currently serves as the Superintendent of the Pecatonica School District in southern Wisconsin.

While in La Crosse, she commented on how the state can help schools.

“The state certainly could be helping with more resources. We’ve had to hire more staff, school nurses. Mental health is really important, in addition to PPE. So the state certainly providing more resources would be helpful,” said Jill Underly, State Superintendent Candidate.

Deborah Kerr previously served as the Superintendent of the Brown Deer School District in the Milwaukee area … before leaving the position last year.

Kerr also commented on how states can help schools.

“The federal government has provided millions, in fact, soon to be billions of dollars for the educational needs of our kids. Wisconsin has not spent this money to ensure that our kids our back in school,” said State Superintendent Candidate.

The pair are seeking to replace current state Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor, who was appointed to the position in 2019.
