Wisconsin School Crossing Guard Recognition Week

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – School crossing guards are being recognized this week for their dedication to keeping kids and school zones safe.

Even though passing cars must stop when crossing guards give the signal, crossing guards stop for no one. Rain, lots of snow, or shine, they provide a service to the community that makes sure kids get to and from school safely each day.

La Crosse has a total of 7 crossing guards and 6 school crossings. Thomas Skout has been a crossing guard with the city for about 10 years. He says working school crossings isn’t just about keeping kids safe, it’s also an opportunity to brighten their day.

“Making sure the kids get to and from, corner to corner, and their safe – that makes me feel good. Cause I feel like, I’m here for a reason, right? They’re kind of like my family, you know, they grow on you,” says Skout.

If you get the chance, stop and say ‘thank you’ to all the dedicated crossing guards who help our children get to and from school safely.
