Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers speaks during Wisconsin Counties Association conference in La Crosse

The Wisconsin Counties Association Annual Conference wraps up Tuesday.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) –  The County is hosting the Wisconsin Counties Association at the La Crosse Center.

Governor Tony Evers along with other state and local leaders spoke to the group of a little more than 500 people.

During his brief remarks, Governor Evers addressed the pandemic.

“You know first hand what we’ve been up against these past 18 months. And together we’ve worked to put our state in the best possible position to recover from this pandemic,” said Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers.

CDC guidelines say that anyone in a county with high or substantial transmission, which includes La Crosse County should wear a mask while indoors.

In a statement to News 8 Now, the Governor’s communications director writes:

“The governor and our staff follow CDC guidelines and recommendations for events in which the governor is participating and *expect events and attendees to do the same to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Governor’s office says staff asks event organizers ahead of time what COVID-19 mitigation measures will be followed, and they did so for this event.”
