Wisconsin fishing season opening

Fishers in the La Crosse win prizes through the Explore La Crosse 'Lunker League.

WISCONSIN (WKBT) – The Saturday forecast looks great for trying to reel in the big one.

Wisconsin’s fishing season starts Saturday.

Officials expect boat launches will be busy.

The DNR encourages boaters to maintain social distancing and to wear face coverings.

A fishing license is required for everyone 16 or older and you need a lifejacket for everyone in your boat.

And don’t forget, Explore La Crosse is launching the ‘Lunker League’ as a way to celebrate fishing.

14 different species are a part of the league.

Anglers can submit details about their catch online.

Fishers can win stickers, jigs and hats, plus additional challenges will be available.
