Wisconsin fends off Colgate in 1st round of NCAA Tournament

No. 3 seed Wisconsin men’s basketball fended off a hot-shooting No. 14 seed Colgate Raiders team 67-60 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night in Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum.

Both teams went into halftime tied at 28. Johnny Davis went just 3-of-11 in the first half.

Colgate came in as a talented perimeter shooting team and the Raiders backed that reputation up by shooting 43 percent from downtown (10-of-22).

The only trouble for Colgate was Davis, who went 5-of-9 from the floor in the second half, including several clutch baskets late to help the Badgers pull away. Davis finished with a team-high 25 points. Tyler Wahl added 15 for Wisconsin.

Wisconsin next faces No. 11 seed Iowa State Sunday in Milwaukee for the Round of 32.
