Wisconsin Elections Commission orders recall election for Trempealeau DA
The Wisconsin Elections Commission voted unanimously to order a recall election for Trempealeau County District Attorney Taavi McMahon in response to a recall petition.
According to a news release, if a recall primary is required, the October 2 date will become the primary, and the recall election will be held on November 6, 2018, concurrent with the 2018 General Election.
The Commission received a recall petition from the Recall Taavi McMahon Committee on July 23, 2018. Commission staff determined that it contained 3,149 valid signatures, which is 466 more signatures than the required minimum number of 2,683 valid signatures. Mr. McMahon did not file a challenge to the petition.
Candidates for the recall election must file nomination papers with the WEC by 5 p.m. on September 4, 2018.
