Wisconsin cheesemakers prepare for 2019 U.S. Championship Cheese Contest

Cheese makers from our area are hoping they are ‘cheddar’ than the competition.

The 2019 U-S Championship Cheese Contest is next week in Green Bay.

More than 2,500 cheese, butter, yogurt and dry dairy entries are a part of this year’s edition of the bi-annual competition.

Nordic Creamery is hoping to defend two best in class awards from 2017.

“Wisconsin is pretty big in the dairy industry as most people know and no better way to market our products than to win competitions,” said Al Bekkum, Manager of Nordic Creamery.

Western Wisconsin dairy producers that are also competing include: Associated Milk Producers, Inc. of Blair and Jim Falls, CROOP Cooperative-Organic Valley of La Farge, Eau Galle Cheese of Durand, Foremost Farms of Sparta, Gilman Cheese of Gilman, Hidden Springs Creamery of Westby, LaGrander’s Hillside Dairy of Stanley, Pasture Pride Cheese of Cashton, Prairie Farms Dairy of Mindoro, and Westby Cooperative Creamery of Westby.
