High school athletes hit the slopes at Mt. La Crosse
Alpine State Ski & Snowboard Championships taking place Feb. 15-17
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The better snow conditions are coming at the perfect time for winter athletes.
More than 400 high school athletes from across the state are at Mt. La Crosse competing in the Alpine State Ski & Snowboard Championships.
Snowboarders competed on the first day of the tournament, but the skiers are taking on the slopes today.
It’s the largest high school race in the country.
Thousands of people are cheering on the races, even from home.
“We are live on the world-wide web, with live timing,” race administrator Kathy Frise said. “So if an athlete is skiing and grandma and grandpa are living in Florida, they can go right on and watch it live.”
The races go until Feb. 17, and it is the end of the season for many of these racers.
