Winona teacher receives WEA Teacher of the Year honor
WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) — Most teachers do what they do because they love helping kids, but some teachers deserve to be recognized for all of their efforts.
The Winona Education Association surprised second-grade teacher Kristi Conway Friday with its 2020 Teacher of the Year award.
Conway started out as a reading tutor 30 years ago and has spent the past 25 years in Winona Area Public Schools teaching grades K-3.
Her co-worker who nominated her says she has a heart for children and pours hours into preparing lessons that are appropriate for all learners.
Others say she encourages imagination and creativity and puts the needs of her students first.
“I feel like for a lot of years, I worked really hard, but I’m the kind of person who does it pretty quietly I think and guess I wasn’t so sure anybody was noticing,” said Conway
She says she knew she wanted to be in education since she was a little girl.
