Winona kids tackle ice fishing

Despite the unusually warm weather Saturday, a group of area kids in Winona were still able to experience what it’s like to go ice fishing.

The Minnesota division of the U.S. Fish and WildLife Service and the organization Friends of the Refugee Headwaters teamed up for the 15th annual Kids’ Ice Fishing event, which allows children ages 6-13 a chance to ice fish with experienced ice anglers.

Although the temperature was warmer than normal, officials say the ice was still thick enough for kids to get out and enjoy the day.
