Winona Fire Department responds to Mankato Ave. house fire

Firefighters were battling a house fire in the area Sunday morning on Mankato Avenue.

Two adults and tow children were inside when the fire started and spread to all parts of the house, but they evacuated safely.

The cold weather caused equipment malfunctions when putting out the fire.

Firefighters said the community was helpful when it came to dealing with the weather.

“We have numerous businesses and people coming to assist us with trying to stay warm and opening up their doors to help us out, and we really appreciate that from the community,” Assistant Winona Fire Chief Joel Corcoran said.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and is under investigation.
