WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) — The city of Winona launched a “Wear One for Winona” campaign to encourage residents to wear masks in public places, with the added bonus of chances to win $25 gift certificates.
The campaign features photos and social media stories about community leaders and residents who have chosen to wear masks to slow the spread of COVID-19, protect themselves and their neighbors, keep local businesses open and other reasons.
The campaign is beginning even as a growing chorus of local, state and national leaders, politicians of all parties, healthcare experts and others are ramping up calls to wear masks as the most effective strategy to limit COVID-19 community spread.
Residents also are urged to continue to practice regular hand-washing, physical distancing of at least 6 feet whenever possible, cleaning and sanitizing surfaces and strongly considering not attending or hosting large gatherings, especially indoors.

Those who Wear One for Winona and use social media can win a $25 gift certificate to a local business of their choice.
To enter, take a selfie, post it to your social media account along with your reason for wearing a mask and add the hashtag #wearoneforwinona. Visit, Instagram (@cityofwinona) and Twitter (@CityofWinona) to see examples, like and share widely.
Program organizers will share photos and randomly select a winner each week.
The city’s Community Response Team, a collaborative group of more than a dozen employees across departments who are leading the city’s COVID-19 planning, response and recovery strategies, created the campaign.
As the city continues to plan for the safe, phased reopening of city facilities, many departments continue to offer virtual or curbside services. Residents can visit their websites and Facebook pages for details.
The city’s website and Facebook page also feature regular updates on the city’s response to COVID-19.
