WIAA extends physical exam period
The WIAA Board of Control on Friday approved an extension of the alternate year physical exam period, according to an official press release.
Membership rules require a physical to be had before athletes can play high school sports, and that that exam would be renewed every two years. The WIAA’s decision means that for athletes involved in the upcoming fall sports season,
For fall sports in 2020, student-athletes that have had a physical within the past two years “may receive an extension into the third year until they are able to get a physical with their primary care physician,” per the release. For example, if a high school athlete going into his/her junior year had a physical his/her freshman year, this rule would allow that junior to have another year to get his/her renewed physical from the primary care provider.
As part of their meeting Friday, the BOC also confirmed that state golf will take place June 18-19 of 2021 at University Ridge in Madison.
