Wheelchair basketball game benefits organization for people with disabilities
WEST SALEM, Wis. (WKBT) — An all-star wheelchair basketball game will continue to provide unique sporting opportunities to people with different abilities.
West Salem High School student Joe Wopat organized the game as part of his senior exit project. Seniors at the school are required to create a project with a community or service aspect in order to graduate.
Wopat said athletes with disabilities don’t always get as much recognition, so he wanted to give them an extra special event.
“I think not all the time do people with disabilities get that opportunity to have a big crowd and a cool atmosphere so I kind of wanted to create that for them,” Wopat said.
Proceeds from the event will go to National American Squirrel Association, which provides unique experiences for people with disabilities.
