Whatever it takes: Prairie du Chien reflects on 2020 football season scheduling

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. (WKBT)–Prairie du Chien made the playoffs for the third straight year in 2019, before losing in the fourth round.

In 2020, the playoffs were off the table. But that didn’t mean the Blackhawks didn’t want to suit up.

“It’s constantly waiting for the ball to drop. Is someone going to have to quarantine? Are we going to have to re-schedule?” said Assistant Athletic Director Sara Godfrey.

PDC’s conference for the most part committed to playing this year, meaning the issue wasn’t finding games, but playing them.

“You never know when something might happen. Whether it be our school or their school. After an athletic event happens you never know when ‘well, now someone became positive, so you got to shut down now for a couple of weeks,'” reflected Godfrey.

The team had to deal with several rescheduling issues, and cancelations due to COVID-19 complications.

The Blackhawks finished 4-4, a year that won’t be one for the record book but it proved to be a season that no one, especially activity directors wouldn’t forget.

“It’s probably more rewarding to make it through a season you never thought could happen,” added Godfrey.
