What to expect when you head back to the gym

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – When you head back to the gym be prepared for some changes.

Each facility has its own precautionary measures, from cleaning to social distancing guidelines.

But health experts say there are a few common ones you might see.

For example, the number of people allowed in the building at one time may be limited and machines may be spaced further apart.

There may also be a limit to how long you can stay.

One local health expert says these measures aren’t perfect, but help give people peace of mind while working out.

“There’s no way to completely eliminate it, but there’s a lot of things we can do to lower that risk as much as possible. It’s really up to that person to decide if it’s worth the risk to go back and get back into their regular exercise routine,” said Andrew Jagim Ph.D, Director of Sports Medicine Research at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.

Due to these changes, you might have to switch up your workout routine.

And if you haven’t worked out for a while, Jagim says to make sure you ease back into it to avoid injuries.
