What to expect before visiting La Crosse County campgrounds over Memorial Day weekend

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – If you’re looking to celebrate the holiday weekend by camping, you’re in luck because La Crosse County Campgrounds will be open.

However, there are a few things the La Crosse County Facilities Department wants you to keep in mind.

The Department says the campgrounds will be following social distancing guidelines.

They will only be open to seasonal sites, and no more than 50% of the campground can be occupied.

In addition, no tents are allowed.

The campground will be keeping the playground, bathrooms, showers, and beach closed.

The activities for the weekend will also be canceled.


  • Campgrounds may only open seasonal sites
  • All seasonal site camping units must be totally independent (hooked up to water and
    have a waste disposal system)
  • No more than 50% of campground sites shall be occupied
  • Priority should be given to people:
    • Where it is there primary source of residence for the summer months (April –
      October) or (Seasonal campers that do not have alternate housing available)
    • Use by La Crosse County “essential” workers (living or working in La Crosse County)
      without other housing options
    • First responders who need to use a campground for COVID-19 isolation-related
    • Other exemptions with the prior permission of the local Health Officer or assigned
