What a run! Logan wins D2 state title

The Rangers shut out Waupun 3-0 to claim first-ever championship

There is fresh ink in the record books at 1500 Ranger Drive Saturday evening.

Tied at zero in the third inning, Sydney Lamers started a Rangers’ rally with a triple to center field. Alycia Larson stepped in next and ended the stalemate with a single that put Logan on the board. Later in the inning, a dropped third strike allowed Larson to score, giving Logan a 2-0 lead.

Then the defense and the right arm of Jordyn Kleman took over.

Beginning with a highlight reel catch by Leinfelderin in the fifth and finished off with Kleman striking out the side in the seventh, the Rangers secured the victory and their celebration officially got underway.

“It is just a special group of kids and because of all of the work they have done throughout the year, I am so happy for them,” said head coach Matt Marohl.

Kleman ended the game with a three-hit shutout to go with her second home run of the weekend.

“Joe always comes out strong every game,” said catcher Kadie Weiss. “She showed that today on defense and offense, and it was nice to catch for her all these years.”

With the victory, assistant head coach Ron Sunne earns his first state title in 31 years on the bench at Logan.
