Western Technical College in La Crosse breaks ground on new Veteran Military Center

Veterans attending classes at Western Technical College will soon have a new place to study and meet others.

The La Crosse College broke ground Wednesday on its new Veteran Military Center. The 1,400 square foot center will replace the current Veteran Services area, which is limited to a few offices in the Academic Resource Center.

“Veterans get bombarded with so much information it’s hard to narrow it down to what’s actually important, and the steps that they need to take. With this center opening, we hope to kind of narrow that down and give them a little bit more direction when it comes to benefits and entitlements,” said Student Veteran Advocate David Vikeras.

The Center will also provide a lounge space, meeting area, and room to study for the student veterans Along with serving the campuses veteran population, it will educate the rest of the campus on military culture.

“I think it’s really good for students who are not veterans, who have not served, to be able to communicate and get to know veterans a little better, and what they’re life’s been all about,” said Veteran and Founder of LHI Don Weber.

The $820,000 construction project is expected to wrap up this fall.
