Western Technical College hosts drive-thru style graduation

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)– Western Technical College held a special celebration for its graduates Saturday.

The college originally rescheduled its graduation ceremony for 2020 grads for August. But after guidance from the La Crosse County Health Department, they ended up deciding to cancel it altogether.

But in an effort to still celebrate their graduates, college officials decided to host a drive-thru style ceremony. Students could drive their cars through the parking lots on Western’s campus, pick up their diplomas and wave at the faculty.

“I think all our K-12 schools are suffering from the same thing trying to find something that honors the journey that these students went on. And today we are here trying to honor the journey that they went on to get their diplomas, and their associate’s degrees and their certificates. So we’re just excited to be here,” said Roger Stanford, President of Western Technical College.

Western’s graduating class was around 700 students. School officials expected to see around 100 of them riding through the graduation line.
