Western Technical College holds commencement ceremony for graduates
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — For many college students the semester is coming to a close and for some that means graduation. On Saturday, Western Technical college held a commencement ceremony for the more than 1,400 students graduating after the spring semester.
Speakers at the event included president Roger Stanford and the 2018 student ambassador, Alyssa Boardman. Western Tech graduate and current president of the Vernon Electric Cooperative Board, Bernadine Hornby, was the keynote speaker at the event.
Organizers say Saturday’s ceremony represents the diversity of culture on campus.
“That is the technical college culture. We serve folks whether they’re 15 years old and they’re taking classes here or they’re 65 and they’re coming back for a 2nd or a 3rd career and that’s so exciting. It’s such a mix when you see the diversity of our students walking over,” said Western Technical College president Roger Stanford.
Most students Saturday received a technical diploma or associates degree while others completed apprenticeships and certificate programs.
