Westby celebrates annual junior ski jump tournament

The annual Snowflake Ski Jump tournament in Westby took place Saturday and 81 jumpers showed up to take part in the event.

One of the hills at Saturday’s tournament is one of the six largest hills in the entire country.

The jumpers’ age group ranges from four years old to 20 years old and event organizers say the tournament is a great way for youth to learn about discipline and develop skills.

“Ski jumping is an individual sport, so it really teaches them goal setting, really understanding how to attain, push themselves a little bit and really understand how to push their limits a little bit,” said Matt Keuler, junior ski jumping coach.

There are five hills ranging from 5 to 65 meters and kids from all over the Midwest took part in Saturday’s activities.
