West Salem names new elementary school principal

A new elementary school principal has been named in West Salem.

The district selected Ryan Rieber to take over the position. He takes over for John Smalley who abruptly resigned in January after a rocky tenure with the district.

Rieber is finishing his fourth year as principal of Viroqua Elementary School.

Rieber has also taught at Logan Middle School in La Crosse and at Southern Bluffs Elementary, also in La Crosse.

“I believe in being visible throughout the school and having positive interactions with students, staff, and parents. It is essential to establish trusting working relationships, while providing teachers with what is needed to help them succeed. Teachers and students who strive to give the best of their abilities are the most important resources in creating a successful school,” Rieber wrote in his resume.

He officially begins in West Salem on July 1, 2016.
