West Salem man charged with 9th OWI
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A West Salem man is in the La Crosse County Jail facing his ninth OWI charge.
According to a criminal complaint, on July 4 at 2:49 p.m., officers responded to a driving complaint on County Road B near West Salem. A witness told police that a Jeep nearly sideswiped his vehicle. The witness then turned around and followed the Jeep. He reported that the Jeep was all over the road and nearly hit multiple cars and mailboxes. At one point, the Jeep came to a stop in the middle of the road. The witness walked up to the driver’s side door and saw a man who appeared to be sleeping in the driver’s seat. The man is identified as Troy S. Oldenburg, 48, of West Salem. Oldenburg then woke up and continued driving on County B, nearly hitting more vehicles and mailboxes.
Law enforcement attempted to stop Oldenburg as he continued to drive erratically and ended up blocking his vehicle with patrol cars both in front and behind Oldenburg’s car.
