West Salem boy youngest to hike entire Ice Age Trail

Chase Jones heard about Wisconsin’s Ice Age Trail from a teacher about two years ago, and wanted to hike the entire trail ever since.

Now he can finally say he did.

Jones and his dad, Jon, finished his goal of hiking the trail on Father’s Day last weekend.

The trail stretches for more than a thousand miles across 30 counties in Wisconsin.

He started the trip last November and tackled the trail a few miles at a time. Jones says he learned a lot while hiking but doesn’t think he’ll hike the entire trail again anytime soon.

“I don’t know if I would do it again, it was a lot of hard work, but I’m thinking of going back with some of my other family members and doing a little bit of it again, some of my favorite parts.”

At 11 years old Chase is now the youngest person to ever hike every mile of the Ice Age Trail.

He says more kids should get outside and enjoy the outdoors and he hopes someone breaks his record.
