West Salem area kids learn bike riding skills at Bike Rodeo

WEST SALEM, Wis. (WKBT) – Lots of kids in West Salem learned valuable lessons in bike safety on Thursday.

Organizers of the Bike Rodeo set up different courses to help teach kids riding skills.

They were taught how to safely cross the street and communicate with other riders.

“It’s a really great variety of doing things by themselves, but then also with their peers right next to them to practice that situational awareness of all the moving things that are around,” said Volunteer Stephen Cohen.

Smith’s Bikes inspected every kid’s bike for free.

West Salem Police registered bikes.

The La Crosse County Health Department also offered free helmets for any kid that needed one.

Bike lights and bells were also available.
