Warming Up This Weekend
Slight Chances Snow/Freezing Drizzle Saturday AM
Today’s High: 12F/ Tonight’s Low: 9F (Rising Late)
Updated: Friday, February 14th, 7:23 PM
Good evening… it was a bone-chilling start to the day, with most spots in the teens and 20s below zero. Black River Falls won the big prize with a morning low of -34F!
We will see a reprieve from the bitter cold beginning tonight as that frigid ridge of high pressure slides east of the area. Look for a breezy night tonight as south winds continue in the 10 to 20 mph range, with gusts to 30 mph. This will still create pockets of blowing snow and wind chills in the single digits and teens below zero , especially early tonight. However, those southerly winds will allow temperatures to slowly rise tonight, ending up in the upper teens to near 20 by tomorrow morning.
As we head into Saturday, we will watch a very weak cold front drop into the area. This front will produce a slight chance of light snow. The snow could mix with a bit of freezing drizzle. Any precip amounts will be very light. The chance of precipitation should exit by afternoon. In fact, we may even see some sunshine peek out during the afternoon. Look for highs in the 30s. It will still remain breezy, with south winds at 10-20 mph.
Skies will go partly cloudy Saturday night, with temperatures returning to the teens.
Looking ahead… another chance of snow arrives late Sunday night and continues into Monday night as a storm system passes by just to our south. Temperatures may just get warm enough for some rain to mix in at times Monday. It is too early to determine snow amounts, but there is at least a slight chance for some accumulation, so stay tuned.
Dry weather will then take over for much of the rest of the week. Our next chance of rain and snow arrives Friday.
Temperatures through the period will start in the middle 30s Monday, but cool into the 20s for Tuesday through Thursday as we get a glancing blow of arctic air. Temperatures then return to the 30s for the end of the week into next weekend.
Have a great weekend! -WKBT Cory Malles
