Walker signs breast density notification bill
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — It may now be easier for Wisconsin Women to find they have dense breast tissue. Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill earlier this week that requires mammogram providers to notify women if they have the condition.
Supporters of this bill say this helps women make better health choices as it is harder to detect cancer in women with dense breast tissue.
Doctors at Mayo Clinic say there are many benefits to learning you have dense breast tissue.
“For women that are identified to have dense breasts, it’s important to recognize that screening mammography sensitivity, or it’s ability to identify breast cancer, is not nearly as good as for women that do not have dense breasts,” said clinical breast radiologist Dr. Richard Ellis.
Nearly 30 other states have signed similar legislation.
