Walker helps open new I-90 welcome center
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — People traveling into Wisconsin have a new place to stop and stretch their legs.
Travel Wisconsin officially opened its new welcome center off of I-90 between La Crescent and La Crosse with a ribbon cutting Friday morning.
Governor Scott Walker was among the people on hand for the ceremony.
He says tourism has grown to be a $20 billion dollar industry in Wisconsin and rest stops like the one opened Friday provide a personal touch for those who are passing through town.
“You need a break when you’re traveling, so to have a space for kids to play here, obviously use the restrooms, but then to have people here in our partnership with the regional convention and visitors bureau, pays huge dividends,” said Walker.
The governor says more than 107 million people visited Wisconsin last year.
