W.I.S.E. teaches area women self-defense

Area women are taking their safety into their own hands through self defense.

It’s all thanks to a local program called Women Initiating Safe Environment  or W.I.S.E..

The program is put on by Three Rivers Martial Arts Academy in La Crosse. The classes put  women in real life scenarios, and teach them skills they need to survive.

The goal is for the students to be able to defend themselves in a sexual assault.

“We do everything from home security to traveling, going to and from work, in and out of school, basically every scenario that we can put together, so they have procedures to make them safer for them and their family,”  Master Larry Klahn.

More than 4,000 women have successfully graduated from the program.

Classes start February, 22.
