VOS: ‘Wisconsin’s lawless governor continues to rule by fiat and it must end’
MADISON, Wis. (WKBT)- The speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly calls Governor Tony Evers’ extension of his mask mandate ‘illegal.’
Gov. Evers Tuesday declared a new public health emergency in Wisconsin, labeling the recent surge in cases of COVID-19 among students an emergency and issuing a new order requiring everyone to wear a mask.
Both orders took effect immediately and are set to expire in 60 days.
Vos issued a statement Tuesday in response:
“Wisconsin’s lawless governor continues to rule by fiat and it must end. This latest order is obviously illegal. Wisconsin Statutes clearly state the powers given to the executive branch during a public health emergency are limited. There is already a court challenge and undoubtedly, there will be more. No one branch of government can rule outside the letter of the law and go unchecked, even during a pandemic.”
