Volunteers recognized in La Crosse by Salvation Army
Ed Tanke was named the 202 Volunteer of the Year
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The hard work of volunteers is a vital part of organizations in our community.
The Salvation Army of La Crosse County is celebrating the helpers that make their organization today with a ceremony Tuesday morning.
As part of the celebration, the 2020 Volunteer of the Year Award was given to Ed Tanke.
The long-time volunteer has dating back more than a half-century.
The recognition came as a surprise to Tanke.
“You do it without recognition. I didn’t even know if I was going to come today. I had no idea this was going to happen,” said Salvation Army of La Crosse County volunteer of the year.
More than 16,000 hours of volunteer work helped the organization last year.
That hard work went into serving meals, sorting though donations and of course ringing bells at the iconic red kettles.
