Volunteers needed for ADRC food deliver program in La Crosse County
About 80,000 meals served yearly in the program
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A community organization needs volunteers to get meals to senior citizens throughout La Crosse County.
The Aging and Disability Resource Center needs the volunteers for meal delivery, as well as serving food at meal sites.
Meals are weekdays for about two hours, starting at 10:30 a.m. and flexible shifts are available depending on availability.
One-third of the program’s home-bound seniors have reported the meal delivery driver is the only person they see in their day.
A lot of factors are driving the need for more community support.
“We have over 20 routes that delivery throughout the county of La Crosse. So as you can imagine, there’s a high need for those volunteers, we have some snow birds right now too, so it’s just a matter of tis the season, I think, for trying to get some more volunteers,” said Carissa Pagel-Smith, with the Aging & Disability Resource Center of La Crosse County.
About 80,000 meals are served to more than 900 La Crosse County residents each year through the program.
You can call the ADRC to get more information at (608) 785-5700.
