Volunteers hand-craft quilts for veterans

Stoddard man nominated to receive quilt this year

John Ross of Stoddard served as a military policeman for a year and a half in Vietnam during the war.

On Wednesday, the Quilts of Valor organization presented him with a personalized quilt. It’s their way to honor vets for their service.

Ross was surrounded by family and friends at the Stoddard American Legion when he received his quilt.

“To have the parents here, of my one son, two of my brothers, the guys I worked with, the guys I served with, yeah, that means a lot,” Ross said.

“A lot of people across the country are thankful for what they do, and I thought for John to be able to get this quilt with Memorial weekend coming up was really fitting,” said volunteer quilter Shirley Harwood.

Ross already nominated a fellow veteran to receive a quilt.

The organization has given out nearly 100,000 quilts since it started in 2003.
