Volunteers finish preparations for La Crosse’s Dragon Boat Festival
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — About three dozen volunteers were finishing up the preparations for Saturday’s Dragon Boat races in La Crosse.
The action starts with an opening ceremony at 7:30 a.m. at Copeland Park, with the first race at 8 a.m. An awards ceremony will be held around 3 p.m.
Forty teams are battling to be the best in three divisions– community, corporate and breast cancer survivors.
The funds raised at the festival will support Mayo Clinic Health System’s Center for Breast Care and healthy lifestyle programming at the Boys and Girls Club.
Organizers are asking attendees to park in the Big Blue Dragon Parking located at Veteran’s Freedom Park (across the Black River) or in the streets near Copeland Park. For visitors needing assistance with walking, they can be dropped off by the baseball field entrance.
Copeland Park Drive will be closed from approximately 7 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 21. Boathouse owners will have limited access on Saturday.
A shuttle will run between the Big Blue Dragon Parking at Veterans Freedom Park and the Loggers Stadium from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 21. From 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the shuttle will run every 15 minutes. From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the shuttle will run every 30 minutes.
