Viterbo University’s Tom Thibodeau receives 2021 Community Service Award from La Crosse Area Chamber

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce is looking back at the wild ride that was 2020, and looking ahead to 2021.

During its annual meeting, the chamber highlighted its programs, education and employment opportunities, and the initiatives it plans to accomplish this year.

The chamber also announced its 2021 Community Service Awardee – Tom Thibodeau, Associate Professor of Servant Leadership at Viterbo University.

Thibodeau is dedicated to teaching servant leadership and is an active member of our community.

He offers a Serving the Common Good seminar focused on homelessness and often leads ‘The Ethical Life’ seminars with Rick Kyte.

Among many other things, he also founded the Master of Arts in Servant Leadership, a first of its kind in the nation.

This year the chamber is doing something different for its Volunteers of the Year award.

Instead of recognizing just one person, it’s paying tribute to all of its members.

The chamber CEO said Monday it’s a fitting way to honor the challenges they took on this year.

“Since so many people stepped up in 2020 we’re actually honoring all of our members. It’s a nice touch to show that when everybody comes together we can get through tough times,” said chamber CEO Neal Zygarlicke.

There was also a nationally-recognized keynote speaker, Alan Stein Jr.

Stein worked with well-known athletes including NBA superstars Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Kobe Bryant as a championship-level performance coach.

He now teaches organizational and leadership strategies that can be applied off the court; and that’s exactly what he did at the chamber meeting.

More than 300 people hopped on to watch the virtual event Monday evening.
