Viterbo Fine Arts cancels all performances through June 30, 2021

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Viterbo Fine Arts Center announced Friday that it has canceled all of its performances through June 30, 2021, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the region.

The center sent out an announcement Friday, citing the pandemic for its decision to cancel public performances until next summer at the earliest.

“As eager as we are to welcome you back to the Fine Arts Center, it is not safe to do so at this time,” it said.

Canceled performances include Night Fever, Goitse, Jim Witter’s The Long and Winding Road, and Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. Those with tickets will receive a check in the mail from Viterbo University for the amount of the tickets in the coming weeks.

If you wish to receive a gift certificate or make a donation instead of receiving a refund, please contact the Box Office at 608-796-3100 or boxoffice@viterbo.edu by Dec. 1.

While the performances have been canceled, the stage isn’t sitting entirely empty, according to the Fine Arts Center.

The stage of the Main Theatre has been used as a classroom space for dance and theatre classes, allowing students room to move while being appropriately distanced from their classmates and the lobby area was converted into a makeshift cafeteria, allowing for additional food service and dining areas outside of the main cafeteria.

“As we continue to look ahead to the 50th anniversary of the Fine Arts Center in January, perhaps that is the greatest testament to the work of the Fine Arts Center – the ability to adapt to meet changing needs. It is unclear what the “new normal” will look like when the Fine Arts Center reopens for performances, but it is clear that the staff and volunteers of the Fine Arts Center will be ready to meet whatever changes there may be and welcome patrons back with the same hospitality and enthusiasm as before,” said the center in a statement.
