Viterbo celebrates legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Viterbo University held its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration Monday night.
The event featured award recognitions for community leadership and musical performances.
Keynote Speaker Dr. Sylvia Hood Washington spoke about industrial pollution, environmental racism, and resilience.
“A lot of the work of environmental justice activists, climate activists, environmental justice scholars, climate scholars, it’s really driven by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King and his drive for human resiliency,” said Dr. Washington.
Dr. Washington also spoke about the health effects of climate change, and how it ties to sustainability.
