Viroqua to rely on underclassmen to end postseason drought

A team that hasn’t made the postseason since 2004 can tend to slide under the radar.

“I think we are just underrated. People aren’t going to expect us to do well so we can just go and strike them,” said Viroqua senior Steve Diehl.

The goal this season for Viroqua is simple – end that playoff drought. But to do that the team needs many underclassmen to step up after graduation losses and a small incoming senior class.

Back under center is senior Ryan Hannah for his third season as the Blackhawks starting quarterback.

“I worked a lot on my footwork and I’ve gone to a couple of quarterback camps this year so we can throw the ball a little bit more.”

“He’s a great leader for our team,” said head coach Bill Hannah. “This will be his third year starting for us. He does a nice job along with the other seniors that we have. We’ll have a senior offensive tackle that will be anchoring our offensive line and we’ll have a senior running back that’ll be back too. So we’re really excited about those guys working hard for us.”
