Vikings HC O’Connell emphasizing ‘being visible’ to defense in OTAs
The Vikings are wrapping up their first week of OTAs, and first-year head coach Kevin O’Connell has a lot on his plate as he implements the offense he helped develop with the Rams.
It’s one thing to be an assistant coach under the hyper-locked in Sean McVay; it’s another to suddenly be in charge of everything all the time.
O’Connell has said this week he’s learning just as much as his new players.
“I can literally be a part of as much or as little an individual drill as I want to be when coaches are teaching,” O’Connell said. “And more importantly just be there, be visible to the defense, let them know that I’m learning their side of the ball just as much as they are. I can compliment them on detailed things that they do within our coverages, within a pressure, how we stop the run, and they can look at me as not just an offensive head coach. That’s really important for me.”
