Veterans memorial dedication set for Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona

WINONA, Minn. (WKBT) – A new veterans memorial is coming to Winona’s Woodlawn Cemetery.

The new addition is at the entrance from West Lake Boulevard.

Support from the effort came Ron Wanek who has supported a similar memorial in Arcadia.

The memorial includes descriptions of military conflicts as well as monuments explaining how military members have sacrificed for the country.

“It’s very important because our oldest veteran here goes back to the Revolutionary War. And I think it’s the only Revolutionary War gravesite in the entire state of Minnesota,” said Woodlawn Cemetery board president.

Stephen Taylor was born in Massachusetts and fought during the Revolutionary War, before moving to Minnesota towards the end of his life, according to the Minnesota Historical Society.

An unveiling ceremony will take place Saturday, June 18th starting at 1 p.m.
