Vesterheim in Decorah to host online concert of Scandinavian music
DECORAH, Iowa (WKBT) — Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Folk Art School in Decorah, will sponsor an online concert of Scandinavian music featuring Chicago Spelmanslag at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27.
The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required at the school’s website vesterheim.org by June 26 to receive a Zoom link.
Chicago Spelmanslag has been playing folk music from Nordic countries for more than 25 years. While the fiddle is the main instrument, other instruments will include guitar and bass fiddle as well as the cowhorn (kohorn), mandola (låtmandola), various folk flutes (Härjedalpipor, seljefløyte), jaw harp (mungiga), button accordion (torader) and Swedish bagpipes (säckpipa).
Sponsors include Martha Griesheimer and the U.S. Regional Arts Resilience Fund Phase 1, an initiative of Arts Midwest and its peer U.S. Regional Arts Organizations made possible by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
